The kiddos started kicking enough for me to feel it with my hand on the outside! It feels like tiny taps. The first time I felt it was Monday night (20 weeks) on my way home from work. I felt them again yesterday morning and this morning, again during my car ride into work. Their daddy has been asking them to watch Karate Kid for inspiration and he has also instructed them to do the "Mommy Pokey" instead of the "Hokey Pokey". Hopefully within the next week I'll be feeling them more often and he'll get to feel it too.
My fatigue is high again, so I've been taking hour naps again when I get home from work. I've also started swelling pretty bad in my ankles. The doctor says to keep an eye on it, but it's normal. I need to watch my salt, drink water and put my feet up.

20 weeks
The babies now weigh about 10 ounces. They are the length of bananas (about 10 inches from head to heel)! They are swallowing more now, which is practice for their digestive system. They are also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in their bowels, and we'll see it in the first soiled diapers. Nice!
Their skin is beginning to thicken and develop into four layers. Hair growth is continuing and hair can been seen around the upper lip and eyebrows. They will now cover their ears with their hands if a loud sound is made near me or jump if they are startled. HOW CUTE!!
It may now be possible for Christian to hear the babies heartbeats by placing his ear against my bare lower abdomen (we'll be trying this tonight)!

We're still waiting for the first good kicks, which I'm sure I'll be soon wishing didn't come so soon. I'm feeling pretty good, just tire very easily. This weekend completely wore me out. I'm starting to get swollen ankles and my feet hurt pretty bad after walking and first thing in the morning. My energy level hasn't increased, which I was hoping for right about now. I'm listening to my body and napping when it tells me it needs it and getting to bed early. My belly button is still trying to "pop" out, but hasn't succeeded yet :)
On another note, Christian's family is in from out of town and we had fun this weekend with our nieces. All 4 of them! Abbi and Izzy, our twin nieces from Phoenix, will be in all week. I'm sure we'll learn plenty more about taking care of twins while they are here from them and their parents.

19 weeks and oh, the hormones!
19 weeks already! That's just amazing to me. We're halfway there! Monday night I swore I could feel my belly steadily growing all night long. The hormones have finally reared their ugly head! Last night I was ready to cry and scream at the same time. In fact I did cry, for a very long time for no reason at all. I also yelled at poor Christian for no reason at all as well. He's quite the trooper because the whole time that my lip was quivering and tears were rolling down my face he was trying to get me to smile. It eventually worked, but I decided the best thing for everyone was for to just sleep. And so I did... from 8pm till 7am. I woke up today feeling slightly better but I feel completely on edge. I guess this is one hard part of pregnancy for me to get used to... having no control over myself physically or mentally!
Anyway... on to what the kids are up to this week...
They are now about the size of large mangos. They now weigh approx. 8 ounces each. The amniotic fluid that surrounds them and allows for them to freely move their arms and legs and is also sometimes swallowed to practice digestion. Their brains are now designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision and touch. The arms and legs are now in proportion to the rest of the body. The kidneys are making urine and the hair on the scalp is sprouting. A waxy substance called the vernix caseosa is forming on the skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid.

Our Lil' Angels!!
Here's some video of our ultrasound today. It was soooo cool. Everything looks great. They are both measuring about the same and right on target for 18.5 weeks. We successfully avoided finding out their sexes. The ultrasound technician turned off our monitor when the time came. Christian asked the nurse if everything was "okay" down there, and it is :)
We got to see the four chambers of the heart, the kidneys, stomach, feet, hands, spine, brain, eye lenses and even the lips! The entire ultrasound was over an hour. They also measure my cervix, and everything looks good. I had a minor cervical surgery a few years back that *may* cause me problems, but so far everything is perfect! They'll keep an eye on this for each of my monthly ultrasounds. The heartbeats were both at 130. If you believe old wive's tales, then it would seem like 2 boys. However, my gut now says one boy/one girl. We'll see in November!
At :50 in, you can see two dark spots. One is the heart, the other the stomach! At 1:25 in, you can see both babies, B on top, A on the bottom. At 2:50, you can see one of the babies moving it's arm/hand about. I'm sure this is all very hard to make out without explanation, but still pretty cool!
