Teeth and Liver?!

I took both girls to the doctors yesterday. They had been sleeping through the night for about 2 weeks straight. A few nights ago Emma started getting really fussy and then down right screaming for hours. We're talking red to purple faced all out screaming. And Mady has been waking up a few times throughout the night. I was pretty sure they were just teething, but Emma had been pulling on her ears as well, so better safe than sorry.

Emma is getting ready to cut 2 teeth. One is really ready to break through, which explains her agony. We were told to use tylenol and infant orajel. She should have some relief after they break through and the pedi told me to enjoy the break before the next ones start! We were told to keep an eye on the girls for runny noses and wheezing. I guess there is a bad case of bronchial infections going around. While she was examining Mady, she felt that her liver was enlarged. Now I can't say for sure if she actually used the words "enlarged" or if it felt "unusual". She didn't seem overly concerned, but they usually don't.... they obviously don't want to ever freak the parents out.

Her concern is that Mady has those 3 hemangiomas and in a very small % of cases, there can be internal ones as well. Now out of those liver hemangiomas an even smaller % are cause for concern. BUT since she actually felt something, we need to get it checked out. We go to the dermatologist on Friday and the pedi wants me to ask them if they would prefer an ultrasound or MRI to get a better look at her liver. The pedi wants to make sure if she's running a test, that they will at least be able to see a hemangioma, if that's what it is.

This child never leaves the pedi without another possible issue. It really sucks. The hemangioma on her shoulder is not looking any better since we started treatment on it 2 weeks ago, which also has me concerned. I know it's painful for her and I think it may be what is waking her up at night.

The pedi was very happy with how well the girls are sitting up and standing. She said they seem to be right on for 5 month olds!
